Library Cards and Borrowing Policy
Library Cards
A library card is free to any resident of the Arrowhead Library System who presents acceptable identification.
The library also honors cards from most Minnesota public libraries. You must come to the library
to apply for a card.
Reminder: You are responsible for all materials borrowed
on your card.
Please:
- Do not lend your card to friends or relatives
- Report any loss or damage to materials borrowed on your card
- Notify the library immediately if your card is lost or stolen. A lost
or stolen card may be replaced for a modest service charge.
Loan Periods
- 4 weeks for adult and juvenile books and audio materials. These items may be renewed for
2 weeks. Please bring items to the main desk to be renewed, or call the library with complete information.
- 2 weeks for new adult books. Renewable for 2 weeks if there is nobody waiting for the item.
- 1 week for magazines and pamphlets. No renewals.
- 4 days for videocassettes and DVDs. No renewals.
There is no limit on items borrowed except: 4 videos and 2 DVDs may be checked out at any time.
Overdue Policy
These items will accrue fines:
- Adult books and audio recordings: $.20/day per item - $5.00
maximum per item
- Videocassettes: $2.00/day per item - $8.00 maximum per item
- Magazines: $.20/day per item - $2.00 maximum per item
- Juvenile items: $.10/day after grace period, maximum fine of $5.00/item
- Lost or ruined materials: The full cost to replace lost or
ruined materials will be charged to the borrowing patron.
Grace Period: There is a one day grace period for most items. There is a grace period of 20 days for juvenile items.
If materials are returned after the grace period, the patron will owe a fine from the date the item was due.
Patrons must be in good standing to receive Reserve or Interlibrary Loan
books. Patrons with fines of $5 or over must reduce their fines in order
to check out materials.
Returning Materials
You can avoid fines by returning materials promptly. The library does not send notices for fines, only
overdue materials. Occasionally you may be stopped at the checkout desk and
asked to pay accumulated fines.
Most materials may be returned to any library in the Arrowhead Library System.
Items placed in the bookdrop after the library closes will be considered
returned the next business day.
